I bet if G.M. had a base V body car (not named GTO) with a v-6 offered for around 23k they would sell a sh#tload. Please no negative feed back on this. I mearly state this because G.M. sold many v-6 F-body cars as well as v-8s.

Steve, Are you sure it was a Monaro you saw, not a Berlina or a Calais? As far as I'm aware, the Monaro only comes with a V-8...LS1 in the base Monaro, LS2 in the HSV GTO. Anyway, you're right that V-6 Holdens would sell like hotcakes.

The 2-door coupe with the Monaro label is only available with V-8 power. As Jeff stated, LS1 in the standard and LS2 in the HSV GTO***. The 4-door sedan that the coupe is based on, the Commodore, is available with a V-6 (255 HP) or two V-8 options (both at 337 HP and one with SS accessories). The Berlina and Calais that Jeff mentions (also based on the Commodore) are also 4-door and have V-6 (255 HP) or V-8 (337 HP) options. These would sell like hot cakes because of the quality.

Nevertheless, the Monaro is NOT available in V-6 and I am glad that it's not. Having a V-6 option (even an awesome one at 255 HP) would put it in the same category as Mustangs and you'd soon find it at your local rental car agency.

***Technically the HSV doesn't carry the "Monaro" label making the only 2+2 coupes it's available in being those carrying the "GTO" label: The Pontiac GTO or the HSV GTO.

Yes, benj. However, I believe it was dropped during the 2003 model year rather than after it. In any event, I thought we were talking about what was currently available. I don't see anywhere that a V-6 option is currently offered for the Monaro.

I think if there was a 4 door, V8 model available, that's what I would have bought, especially if you could get the M6. As a daily driver, it would have made it a lot easier to get the little guy in and out.

The Commodore SS is Holden's 4-door LS1 6-Speed on the same chassis/unibody as the Monaro. It would sell well and the Aussie price is less than the Monaro.

I think Pontiac should import it with Tempest/LeMans badging.
