I have Crager SS 15X7 with 225/70 Diamond Back Redlines. I would like to put a bigger tire on the rear. Can I go with a wider Crager and bigger tire or just a bigger tire? I am sure it's been asked before.

All depend on how much backspacing you have in the wheels.I have only 3 3/4 in my aluminum slots,I am running 245/60/15s and there is only 1/2in of room.If I had 4 or 4 1/2 back spacing I could run wider tires.

Custom backspacing, no mods to the sheetmetal, a guy at a car show recently had Cragers with 275/60R15 on his 66. It looked great, but the guy had to order a 1/4 inch differen backspacing for each side to get them to fit.

i run 15x10 centerline convo pros on my 66 gto...with 30x13.5 mt et streets...wheels have 5 or 5.5 inch backspace...i forgot...its been awhile since i put them on..

Blue '66 04-23-2005 05:02 PM

5-5.5 backspacing on a '66?Really,I heard 4.5 was the max.Can you check and see for sure. Can you post a pic of one of the rear wheels? Thanks!

pontillac 04-23-2005 05:36 PM

yea...i remember going crazy with the backspacing...i ordered 2 sets of wheels...the car has a perfect stance right now...i believe it is 5 or more...i will try to find out...i have about 1/2 inch from the inside of my tire to my chassis..i will take a few pics tomorrow and email them to you...

Hey Rob, I'd like to see the pics too. Did you have to do anything to the outer wheelwell's or do you have mini-tub's?

pontillac 04-24-2005 06:10 AM

no mini tubs...when i installed new quarter panels on the car the lip that goes into the wheelwell was kinda big...so i had to trim it down...they fit perfect..i keep a little extra air in the rear airbag just in case...i will take pics today...

Please post the pictures. I am currently working on my outer fenderwells trying to decide if I should modify them or not. When they modified your fender well lips, what did they do with the chrome fender trim? Did they trim that as well? If so, can you take pictures of them as well? Thanks!

pontillac 04-24-2005 08:00 AM

i trimmed the lip myself...with a die grinder and cut off wheel...i dont use the chrome trim anymore so i cant answer that part of the question..sorry...i will be taking pics this afternoon...

pontillac 04-24-2005 06:01 PM

i tried posting pics but have no clue how to...if you want i can email them to whoever wants them...

Junkyard Dog 04-25-2005 11:03 AM

Doesn't look like it fits on the outside!

pontillac 04-25-2005 12:38 PM

the tires fit perfect...give me your email address for better pics...i took a few..but they are showing up too big..i have a few different angles..the sidewalls are big on the tires...they are 30x13.5...if you wanted to have the quarter's cover the sidewalls, you would be better off with the 12.5s...when the car is level the quarters cover the top of the tire like a glove...

bigsledgehammer 04-25-2005 12:52 PM

67 with 15x7 Cragar SS Alloys.

235/60 in front

245/60 in rear

4.75 backspacing with no issues....
