My '79 TA is going in for paint on the 23rd, so I am thinking about ordering the decals. I found a shop that can put them on, but then noticed (Year One Catalog) that the bird is listed as having an adhesive backing. I did not go into details about the installation with the shop, and know nothing about putting them on, so is the adhesive backing the correct way to go, and what are the other options, if any? It just seemed strange that they would mention the backing for the decals I want, but not some of the others. Thanks.

All the decals have adhesive backing, its the only way they will "stick" to the surface.
A liquid solution is applied to the metal surfaces and the backside of the decals to permit movement and the final placement of them.
A plastic squeege is then used over the top of the decals to remove any air bubbles.
The solution eventually evaporates and the decal is permanently stuck to the surface.
FWIW....I used plain old Windex on all the decals of the '78. However, if I were to install the large hood bird, I would use the manufacturer recommended product.

If you need help or want it installed by someone else, check out a sign making/vinyl banner shop. They do these installs all the time on cars/buses/vans. My wife does them at her shop.

Thanks, GoatDr and Larry. I am OK with the painter putting them on, it was my lack of knowledge with how they are made (adhesive) and installed. All I knew was that they used a liquid to position the decals, and it did not seem like a liquid would work well with adhesive. Now, with your comments, I am not worried.

The "positioning" liquid reconstitutes the adhesive, allowing the decal to be floated into positon.

Stay away from Pheonix graphix for the decals they will not stand behind their products.

I have read that plain old soap and water can be used in place of the 'gel' the decal mfg's provide. I recall High Performance Pontiac doing an article on bird decals about 1yr? ago that had some good hints and tips.

I have read that Phoenix Graphix and Stencils and Stripes have good reproduction decals.
