OK...I know someone has solved this issue.

I am installing a Milodon pan in a '69 bird. All the mounts are new. When the engine is in, the pan hits the crossmember (Foul language begins here!)

So what to do? My ideas ranged from placing 1/4" plates under the frame brackets to modifying the hole location on the motor mounts.

What has everyone else done when faced with this problem? Thanks for the feedback.

Wanna buy a windage tray for that? Sorry, I saw that coming when milodon told me I will need a milodon pan to fit the tray. I was lucky enough to swap mounts first, and noticed very little clearance to play with. My guess is shim the mounts, but that may introduce other issues depending on how much shim is needed. That is a real buzzkill problem.

PAW has a steel pan that fit my 69FB perfectly. Has baffles and no issues with windage tray or clearance. It's not a Milodon. $49.95.

I put a 400 with a milodon pan in my '67 LeMans. The pan would only fit by dropping the engine straight down so the oil pan went behind crossmemeber. Then my oil pan JUST cleared crossmember. But I noticed that later motors with the 5 bolt mount arrangement could put the pan sump into the crossmember, depending on how tolerances stack up. I guess thats what you're seeing, if you've got the right pan for that chassis.

The sump part of the pan clears with no issues. Its the belly of the pan that sits on the frame/crossmember.

Do you have the Milodon stock type replacement pan or a bigger/deeper race pan? I have the Milodon stock replacement pan on a 400 in a '69 'bird. I got new motor mounts from NAPA. Everything fits with no issues. It's tight...but not a problem.

Stock replacement Milodon but I got the mounts from NPD (Made in Thailand). How much cleance do you have with the NAPA mounts?

Aha! Motor mounts made in Fong Dong China. Likely a tolerance issue on the knockoff parts.

I'll check when I get home and try to post a picture. I know it's close, but nothing to be concerned about. There's enough room for the engine to wiggle around a bit.

The belly of the pan is the same on all of them. They just cut the sumps off & re-weld diff sumps on. Sounds like your mounts maybe the problem.

Sump is not the issue. That is well behind the crossmember and well behind the drag link. The issue is the front of the pan sitting on top of the crossmember.

That's what i'm trying to tell you. All pans that i know of that are not custom made out of aluminum use the same cores. What that means is the front of the pans is the same as the stock ones. The sump portion is the only thing the manufactures modify.

It doesn't show well in the picture but I have about 1/8 inch clearance. I think you need to toss out those NPD mounts. By the way, the NAPA mounts that I have were made in Korea. Before anyone starts coming down on them, just let me say that they appear to be high quality pieces and obviously work in this application.

OK...here's the verdict. Fong Dong, Thailand (NPD)...BAAADDDDD! Fong Dong, Korea.....GOOODDD! (NAPA). These mounts raised the pan about a 1/4" with ample clearance. Thanks for the help Fireburger!

Scott, I concur. They are all the same dimensionally.
