Yes, take a look at the attached photo. I did this myself and must say it came out real nice. I did it 4-5 years ago and I believe I used Rust-oleum satin black with a satin clear coat. ( I know, hack city but it matches real well) I did the silver trim by hand, and used new wood grain and machine turned attachments from Ames. A set of new knobs and it looks pretty good.

Ah hah ... how did you do the silver trim? What did you use? Does it look like chrome? My '70 was purchsaed from a guy who did this himself and it looks like sloppy model silver paint that he brushed on. Not shiny at all and the hand must have been shaky that day!
Thanks Phil |
I used some of the chrome spray you can buy, sprayed a bunch in a small metal bowl and carefully, very carefully brushed it on. I have a pretty steady hand. It does not shine like chrome, but looks better than a can of Testor’s model paint. I have heard that the chroming technique that some restoration shops use does not last very long and has a tendency to flake off. Don’t know if that is true, but my car is a nice driver so I wasn’t ready to plunk down hundreds of dollars. I think my outlay was under 50 bucks.

I saw an older post that discussed the Testors argent silver paint pen. I purchased one last week and it works very nice. You can control the paint pen easily on the rim edges unlike a paint brush. I'm quickly learning to read back several years on the old postings, as almost all areas in question have been discussed before with good relative info.

I taped everything off and sprayed it. It came out pretty decent.
