Trutrac vs. Eaton???

Guys,

Any opinions as to which posi unit is better? I know about the Eaton, but the design of the Trutrac seems better. I know the Eaton is rebuildable but is the Trutrac?

This is for a 12-bolt build that will have everything new, and want the most durable and long lasting parts as possible?

Thanks,

Adam

I was going to ask this very question, but I searched the archives first and found this thread that received no responses.

Anyone care to respond to this now.

I really wish I had an ID on the locker in my 8.2. It runs great No ratcheting or noise.
Works perfect. The only issue occured a few days ago and it was my fault. I was running late for school punched it on a 90 degree turn and almost traded paint with the oncoming cars LOL. I love it I was told it's an OLD detroit locker because they dont offer 8.2 units anymore. Wish I could help more.

i used an auburn gear pro unit in my 8.2" B.O.P. rear end and have had no problems so far. it's been a year now. no noise or ratcheting. i don't believe that it is rebuildable. i swapped it over from an open (peg leg) unit and used a install kit from summit.

both the eaton and the gear unit are excellent diffs for street use.
if you're going to do a lot of drag racing, or "something like that" on sticky tires, go with the eaton unit.
it is stronger then the wormgear styles.
i run a wormgear on my syclone, v8 6 speed s10, and an eaton in the trans am.
happy with all of them; really like the geared units in bad weather, and there's less corner entry understeer then with the eaton.

eaton is rebuildable; the worm styles should last nearly forever.
