17058266 carb???
 

This carb. is on a 78 TA I just bought.
Is this even from a pontiac? Its not the original motor ('74-455)
It is bolted down with 3/8" bolts and the intake has been drilled out and
re-tapped for 3/8.
the problem is I want to change intakes,take off the SP2P and put on the
RA-IV that I have. I will NOT drill out the holes on this intake.
Do any Q-jets come this way, or did someone drill out this carb for the
bigger 3/8" bolts?

Steve, q-jets are held down with 5/16" diameter bolts. The 266 carb is a 1978 Pontiac carburetor. It is an emission calibrated carburetor, slightly lean calibration, but an EXCELLENT starting point for a really nice HP carb. I use a very similiar 1977 Q-jet on my own 455 engine.....Cliff

Thanks Cliff, do you think if I put in the right bolts the fit will be to sloppy and shift
around around on top of the intake?

Obtain a gasket with the solid plastic spacers, glue the carb to the gasket with a small amount of RTV, lining it up carefully. Then bolt it down with the smaller bolts on the new intake.....Cliff
