Real Pontiac in 87 Formula
has anyone seen or done this? i am thinking of using a 350 pontiac in an 87 formula. and if i get the twin to4b turbo thing to work in my 65 lemans, i may carry it over to this idea.
p.s. anyone ever used rebuilt turbos on any anything. i am talking stock turbos from a truck/tractor shop. the prices are outstanding, though i am worried about using them in performance applications. |
I mocked up a pontiac swap into my 82 camaro. Using an allpontiac motor plate would be the easiest way to mount the motor in the chassis as well as using an aftermarket tubular k-member to minimize potential header fitment problems. If you do a search on this site, there are a few threads detailing pontiac motor swaps into third gens.
A guy I know raced outlaw 10.5 using a large frame turbo off a tractor. He went 5.00s in the 1/8th with a basic small block chevy combo on 29.5x10.5W slicks in a 80s s-10 pickup. |
Here's a thread at thirdgen.org that deals with this. Maybe it will help answer some questions.....

Why just a 350? Have one just sittin there collecting dust or something? TGO has a couple threads on real engines in 3rd gens. Might want to look into a different rear end too, doesnt take much to break the 7.5"ers..

thanks 81tta, great thread at that site, as for a 350? i dunno, something different i guess. always wanted a high revving smaller engine. again, thank you all for the info.
