'70 Cloth Interior?
 

Does anyone own or know of a '70 that has an original deluxe cloth interior in either Sandalwood (Trim Code 227) or Black (Trim Code 228)?

I'm looking for an example of what the fabric inserts looked like.

Would 1971 be the same pattern? I have a friend (3tas4me here on PY) that has a '71 Trans Am with the black cloth deluxe interior.

trim code 228... do any of these pictures help?

Yes.... tremendously! It shows me that the ribs in the pattern run side to side on the seats rather than up/down, and also what the pleating pattern was.

Is this your car? Would you by chance have a picture of the door trim panel from it? I'm wondering which way the pattern runs on that as well.

Den, I haven't seen an actual '71 cloth interior, but I have compared the material swatches in my '70 dealer book to the ones in my friend's '71 dealer book, and they are different. The '70 pattern is sort of a corduroy look, as in Jonny's picture above. The '71 pattern is a "sawtooth", if that makes sense.

Only place you can get the correct material for the seats is from SNS. The issue with the originals is that they are heat stiched unlike the repos.

Are you guys refering to comfortweave vinyl interior?

No... I was asking about the optional cloth. There were three different seat trim levels available:

. base (all vinyl)
. deluxe comfortweave (w/ the comfortweave inserts)
. deluxe cloth (cloth inserts; only available with black or sandalwood interiors)

Wow, never saw the deluxe with the cloth inserts before, its a nice option. How come it was only available with black and sandlewood interiors, thats was pretty rude of them....lol, J/k. Is it a rare option?, I really never saw that on a 70 Formula before in any pics or in person. Really does look cozy thouh.

I will shoot a pic of my black cloth interior out of my '71. It is a different pattern than the '70. Seems that the cloth option with the deluxe interior is not very common in the early cars.

That picture was taken a couple weeks ago when I went to look at a local '70 T/A that showed up on eBay; I believe David T's bought it and shipped it up north ( http://www.davidt.com/ ) you might want to contact them.. as if they aren't restoring it they might sell parts - or at least they might provide you with some pictures.

When I was looking at the car I actually thought it was the comfortweave interior, but a closer inspection proved me wrong.

Here is the 1971 cloth option in black. Sawtooth is one way to describe it, herringbone is what I call it.

Thanks! That matches what I saw in my friend's trim book, but that's the first I've seen it in a real car.

Any chance you could post a pic of your door trim? I'd like to see which way the pattern goes on the insert.

Not mine, wish it was though. This T/A was for sale a few years back and I saved the pics. I haven't seen a 70 cloth interior in person.

Here is a pic of my 71 door trim panel. Interior is out of the car right now as resto is not complete yet. The pleats run vertical, just the '70 door panel but have the herringbone pattern in it.

Keith K., somewhere in my travels. Unfortunately three of the exterior color samples are stuck together, Colonado Gold, Carousel Red and Goldenrod Yellow. I am looking for a better one, though.

Looks nice! Is that original, or have you had it restored? I'll be looking for someone that can "rebuild" a pair of door trim panels for my '70. I know Just Dashes can, but wondering if others are capable as well.
