68 wood steering wheel

Ive been trying to research this and have come up with different stories.I need to get a wood wheel for a 68 .Some places say that the 68s had the thicker real wood wheel with the pearl dots and some are saying the simulated wood wheel is correct.Which is correct?

simulated.

Simulated. The correct wheel looks like the one in the pic below. FYI, I believe the reproduction wheels PY and Ames sells are for '69-'70 and are a little deeper than an original '68. Otherwise, they look correct.

Good,I really dreaded having to put that other wheel on with the dots. Thanks

Wait till you see what they want for the real thing! Hope you have $500 laying around. I have been looking for a while - I think the best plan is to score one with a good center section and send it in to PY for a restore. Under $400 maybe.
That was my plan - but I changed it to using my 70 GTO sport wheel with the fake leather look. Kinda nice - and I already own it.

I think the '68 wheel was a little deeper than the '69-'70. The repop available is the shallower '69-'70 type.

That's right. I had it backwards.

I would if the center section was presentable. Its not for me and the customer wanted to use one that he bought off ebay but the center section is pitted badly.Im going to buy the re pop.

I see the originals on ebay often - it sure is hard to tell what kind of condition the center is like. Maybe I am lucky I have lost all the auctions so far :) Let us know how the re-pop looks.
