Engine Builder question

I live in Arizona and I foolishly had the motor rebuilt before my car came out of the body shop. How long can an engine sit on an engine stand before I get problems? It will be two years on Feb 2nd 06. Should I have a new gasket set installed and the engine gone through? Thanks James

thats not foolish, nothing wrong with that...just make sure its properly primed with good lube...no dry internal contact surfaces...i like to turn the oil pump with a drill/prime tool with the valley pan off and turn the motor by hand to make sure everything is lubing correctly...i especially make sure the cam has good quality cam lube on it, and after being on this forum for a while...oil with zinc in it...i adjust my hyd. lifters this way as well...jmo...

Thanks I feel better now.

Rotate the engine 90 degrees every few weeks. This will allow different valve springs to be compressed. Sitting in one position can cause the compressed springs to lose some of their tension.

If a customers or resale engine is in my shop I leave the the rockers loose untill they get ready to pick it up.
FWIW. If it's gonna sit a long time. just back the rockers off.

If not and getting ready to fire follow new break in procedures.

Wait untill you are ready to start it for the priming. Some people think that filling it with oil and spining the pump every month would be a good idea. This will start to thin out the prelube and is not good.
