1974 Formula Value?
 

I was hoping someone could help with an idea of what this car is worth. It's matching numbers, 455 with an automatic transmission. Some nice options, a/c, tilt, power windows and locks, rear console. It's a very presentable car in good driver condition. Any opinions? Thanks

It's hard to judge without pics...You don't see a whole lot of 455 Formulas. I'd venture to guess, based on your description, that it should go for between $5,000 and $8,000 for a decent driver with not too much rust but one that's not a perfect survivor. Maybe more for a really desirable color combo, wheels, etc.
What color is it, by the way?

I saw that one that sold for 10k, but couldn't find any more to be able to tell if that was the exception or the rule. The color is 64 D. Thanks

Silver, with a brownish vinyl top? Does it have the saddle interior? Maybe $8,000. The car in the link was asking $10,500 but did it sell for that much, who knows?

I have looked everywhere for a cowl tag decoder. Where in the heck did you find that? The car in the link had super low miles. I would have expected a higher asking price.

Legit Formula 455 cars are few and far between for each of the four model years they were offered:
1971 - 671 total (350=L75/M40, 3=LS5/M13, 163=LS5/M22, 155=LS5/M40)
1972 - 276 total (no breakdown available for manual versus auto cars - they were all LS5 cars, as L75 Formulas were built this year)
1973 - 773 total (227=L75/M22, 503=L75/M40, 10=LS2/M22, 33=LS2/M40)
1974 - 760 total (I have no breakdowns further than this: 702=L75, 58=LS2)

(FYI - L75 = 'D' port 455 / LS5 = 455HO / LS2 = SD455)

I would suspect that all legit L75 Formulas are a little undervalued right now - they were better performers than either the '75 or '76 L75 T/A's, and how many times have you heard how few '75-L75 T/A's were built? (I've heard it plenty & there were more built than your car!) The '76 L75 T/A's demand a premium and there were only about 7000 built...

The prices previously stated are probably correct for where they are sitting right now... but with this ongoing upward price trend (and the buying public finally realising that the '74-76 Firebirds are overlooked) I'd expect them to go up too...

I sold my 1974 Ram Air Formula 400, 4 spd, 3.42 posi, honeycombs, 110k miles, many options. Non original motor, original went with(still ran), and over $2000 in extra parts. I sold it for $6,000. The car did need restored, but was still a good running and looking car.

Has anyone heard of a 73 or 74 SD-455 Formula changing hands recently? If so do you know how much it/they sold for?
