liners in a p400
 

I`ve just pulled the heads on a 400.the block has been linered.the liners have been fitted from the bottom and there is about 5/16" of the original bore left at the top.The only liners i`ve ever seen were in alloy engines and they came up to the head face.Is this the way iron blocks are linered or am I looking at a bodge job?

liners usually installed from top down, have a lip left on block to keep them from moving down into crank and are flush with top. heads would keep them in place.

Sleeves (or liners) are NEVER installed from the bottom. You can't get them in past the main webs, usually. Got any pics of the 5/16 part?

I think what your looking at is the normal wear line at the top of the cylinder. The lip you"ve noticed is were the piston ring stops at top dead center. The ring dosent come all the way to the very top of the cylinder which creates this lip.

my 400 for my daughter's T/A need a sleeve for rust- no problems except the extra C-note it cost....
