problems with caliper install on 67 gto after powdercoating:
 

Awhile back I put a complete 4 wheel disc brake kit on my 67 gto...front and back for safety.

The system I have is based on a 69 chevelle factory setup, with 4 piston calipers (not sure about the back ones)

The calipers that came with the kit were bare cast iron, and I thought they looked quite ugly behind the new gragar wheels that are going on.

So off to the powdercoated they went!

Now this week I put one back on the driver's front rotor...tightened the bolts all the way they would go...but the calipers still are a little wobbly when you try to jiggle them around. Not SERIOUSLY bad but still a concern for me. Is there supposed to be some wiggle room on these or are they supposed to be flush with the calipers seating the pads onto the rotor???

I'm really not sure. The shop that did them ground off any powdercoat where it wasn't supposed to be...so that part checks out ok. The mounting bolts that fasten them onto the mounting brackets above the splash shield have a short thread...then stops about a quarter of the way up the bolt. then about a quarter below the allen head there is a step that expands out, making the area below the head larger than the main part of the shaft.

Hope that helps? Opinions? Don't want to go down the road when I get it running and find out the brakes are not functioning properly because of my stupidity! :jaw:

last I checked, 4 piston calipers were never factory offered on a 69 chevelle and 4 piston calipers on a 67-68 used a slightly different caliper mounting bracket which did not fit up directly with a single piston caliper from a 69 or later model. So did the caliper fit up tight before being powder coated or is this the first time you put this all together? Also, since powder coated is a heat curing process, were the calipers disassembled prior to powder coating and then reassembled after. Do you know the pistons and seals work? How did the other side (pass) fit up? Too many unknown issues here to judge. Give us more details.
