Route to take with my 4x heads..?
 

I’ve read tons of posts on here and have learned a lot so far, but I haven’t found what I need to know… I’m going for 425-450 HP in a mostly street car ('68 Firebird) that will see the strip maybe half a dozen weekends a year. My dilemma is what to do for heads. Can I keep the current 4x’s, put the 2.11, 1.77 valves in and have the ports cleaned up and make the power, or will they need a fair amount of port work? Then the next question is would I be better off going through someone such as The Dude, or Butler and paying the money for a set of d-port heads all ready finished? I don’t plan on making more power than that with this motor anytime soon. I’m trying not to dump much more $$$ into the motor than I all ready have so I can put money towards building a tube chassis ‘bird.

Here’s what I’m working with from a ’73 Lemans 2-barrel 400:
4x heads with small valves, 98cc
400 block, .035” over, align-honed, - will be decked to reach 9:1
4.25” Ohio crank
6.8 bbc Scat h-beams
Ross flat tops
XE274 hydraulic flat tappet
Crower SS 1.65 rollers
Performer RPM intake – will be port matched
Mad Dog headers – on order

TH350 with a TCI 11” breakaway converter (~2400-2500rpm)
9” with 3.10 gears & a Detroit Locker
26-28” tall tires, haven’t decided

I currently have an Edelbrock 1411 carb, but hope to get rid of it as soon as I find a good 800cfm Q-Jet.
