Rebore of a 350
I have just stripped a pontiac 350 engine down. Its going to need a rebore and I was thinking how much I could rebore it and maybe use a Chevy smallblock or some other piston?Only asking in case someone else has ever done it.

Why not take it to the next OS and use a Pontiac piston?
What´s the idea? |

There was an article in one of the Pontiac rags a while back that was pretty helpful. You can use Mopar 318 Pistons but the tops have to be machined, otherwise they will be above the deck. Probably be about as cheap to get a set of custom pistons made........I have seen where you can get pistons made for around $550 or so. I thought I read something here at PY about someone having forged piston made for 350's and would have them in stock but I cant remember who or where. May try doing a search for it. |

"I think the idea is that there are no forged pistons to be had for the 350P."
There went that idea! Hell, if you want them bad enough, Ross, JE, and others will make them for you. By the way Ken, that's a nice looking piston. If anyone around here wants to build a 350, Iknow who to get pisons from! |
There are at least three other companies making OE spec forged NHRA stocker pistons, besides the ones Ace offers,no problems getting good forged pistons for 350's,just a little pricey compared to "generic" speed-pro forgings, but all those available far surpass the generics in quality and light weight.
Say Ace,you sure 'bout those pins being "tool steel" pins? Always heard those pins were'nt recommeded for street use, most usually use a carbon steel/chro-mo variant or such... The jury on the "just how far can you punch a 350" is still out IMO,so if you want to push that envelope,I predict a block sonic test in your future. This has been gone over in length, just do a search on 350's,it should come up. |

Thanks guys.I have decided to go to a 400.It looks as though a 350 could cost as much as,if not more than a 400.Just not worth the effort.
