console shift plate

Those of you who have been following the restoration of my '71 GP 4-speed know that I've tried for some time to figure out what the finish is on the console shift plate. Under close inspection, it's kind of a rubbery substance, scratches fairly easily, and tough to restore. Several of you have mentioned that it might be some type of flocking. The best recommendation was the battery tray coating from Eastwood. I bought it and it looks pretty good after a bunch of work. The flocking kit I bought definitely isn't a close match either to the touch or in appearance.

Before I strip my one and only console plate, I want to find another one and try to duplicate the finish on it. So, if anyone has a console shift plate....auto or manual....kicking around the shop that you will let go for a few dollars, I would like to buy it. I know I might get my hands slapped for not posting this under parts wanted, but my desire is to develope a system for restoring this plate and then sharing it with all of you. Let me know if you've got a plate....the condition really doesn't matter since I'm going to strip it bare.

Thanks much folks...

Denny

I have one...

for an auto. Let me dig it up so I don't get "bitten" again for saying I have something and then not being able to put my hands on it. I know it is in my box of swap meet stuff. Let me check. Thanx. Ron
