Windshield options

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a windshield for a 68 GTO HT. I would like to get one that has the antena built into the windshield as my fenders are not drilled for one and I do not want to drill a hole for one. What are my options as far as which make/model cars that I can look for one. I am limited on choices here in Alaska but do have a few windshield shops. So what will fit and also what ends do I need for the antenna portion?

68-72 A Body. What else will work? Chevelle or........

Thanks,

Bill

I think the windshield with the antenna will be readily available, even up there, Bill. Won't matter which brand, just that it's for a '68-'72 A-body 2-dr sedan or HT--converts are different. I put one in my '69 a few years ago (came with the car) and I just ordered the little adapter for the antenna from Ames or PY or somebody. Works fine.

Unlike the back glass, I think all the GM '68-'72 A body windshields are the same. As I recall, '70 to '72 is what you'll need for the in glass antenna.

just bought glass

Bill,
I went to a glass shop, asked for 68 GTO and they asked me what I wanted - antenna or not, blue tint at the top etc. It came in next day. Maybe in Alaska it will be longer - but I believe all the A body GM coupes had the same windshield so you shouldn't have trouble.

Bill,

Make it simple and ask for a 70 GTO windshield with antenna and your tint preference. Don't even bother mentioning it is for a 68 that may confuse the counter person. I installed one in my 69 after removing the power antenna and it works and fits just fine.

or you could get a plain windshield and go XM radio, mount the reciever bubble thing on the dashboard of the package tray. thats another option.

Hi,
What about the routing of the antenna cable? A 68 GTO isn't going to have a hole where the 70-72 A-Bodies do. You will probably have to drill it while the old windshield is out of the car. I'd ask some of the guys in the 70-72 forum to send you pictures and measurements of their windshields with the internal antenna arrangement.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Mike
