Is that a HEMI? :)
No, not what you're thinking. Although everyone thinks my TA is a Camaro. Bleh.
Was coming home in the 70 TA after a softball game last night, minding my own business, when a Eurotrash looking dude in a new Celica GT keeps getting up on my butt, so I push down the accelerator a bit to pull away from him. Next light he right back on my butt. So I'm thinking I might have to go a little harder off the line. Light turns green, I accelerate a little aggressively, but no where near a full throttle tear when I hear "BWAAAAAAHHHHH" right next to me and I instinctively throw the hammer down, pull even with whatever this was through 1st and blow by it through 2nd, get about a car and half on it before I have to turn off, and see a big new HEMI pick up truck with a guy that looks JUST LIKE the Hemi-Cooter dude in the commericals! I gave him a little wave but he didn't even look over. Guess he was too embrassed that his HEMI just got it's lunch money stolen. :) Not your daddy's HEMI, that's for sure. Generally I don't do stuff like this (esepcially with my wife a couple cars behind me) but when somejust throws down like that without warning, instinct kind of takes over. :) |
well......so who won the softball game ?

My other car's a hemi ;-)

Now THAT is a HEMI!
We lost the game 10-9, but we're 8-2 on the season. :) |
Hemi this.............over rated and over hyped engine in street trim. New ones even more so. Just about everyone with a 440+6 has a hemi kill story to tell. Beautiful 70 R/T though. Were the scoops on the door part of the R/T package or was the 500 carried over to 70?
|
My brother has a 70 charger 500, it doesnt have the R/T scoops, nor the Hemi. I'm pretty sure that was part of the R/T package.
My whole family is mopar nuts, I am the only one with Pontiacs. Interesting thing is, my slowest car is a full second faster than the fastest family mopar. I guess they will never learn. |
The door scoops were unique to the 1970 Charger R/T. This car is actually a 1970 Charger R/T-SE. (In GM terms that's like a Z28 Rally Sport, the luxury trim option on top of the performance option) In Mopar terms it's somewhat rare. They made 15 of them with a Hemi: ten four speeds and five automatics. This one is a four speed car. They only made one in red, this one. It has 16,000 miles and I've owned it about 20 years. I live 15 miles from the dealer that sold it new and I have the entire dealer file folder on the car, including the original dealer prep work order that details the installation of a set of headers prior to delivery. It runs 12.77@111, though I don't race it (much) any more. Here's a link in case anyone wants some more info:

Steve, cool car and cooler story-
|
My first memory of muscle cars was my neighbor's 69 Charger R/T. I was just about at eyeball to headlight hight and was always looking in the grill for the headlights so I have the appearance of the grill etched in my memory. When I was tall enough, I used to pop the gas tank lid but he was cool and never got PO'd.. Wish I could affort a 68-70 R/T. I think that or a GTX would top my dream car list. A 67-69 Baracuda coupe would be pretty cool too.
