63-64 AM radio needed
 

Does anybody want to sell a big car 63-64 AM radio thats in very good cosmetic condition, it doesn't have to work.
I need one to be converted into a head unit.

I think I might be able to come up with one. I should be able to let you know by tomorrow or Sunday.

Who is doing the conversion and how much. I would like to do that to my radio.

guys, I will soon be releasing an invention that will enable you to listen to music from an iPod, CD player, Walkman, etc. thru your stock radio -WITHOUT modifying it- and nobody will be able to see the adapter.

The plan is to have pre-production prototypes available by the end of September. If you can hold out a little bit longer, I would like you to give my idea a try.

This has been something I have been working on for about a year in my after-5 'spare time' ...lemmy tell ya it has not been a trivial project!

Interesting...is this something that will get connected inline with the antenna cable, like those FM converters they used to sell? (speaking of which, I still have one of those things in a box somewhere that I've been meaning to install on my car.)

I've always liked the sound quality of old tube Delco radios anyway, so it would be nice to keep the guts of the radio intact.

This is going to be too expensive once the bids are all in.
I'll bet this would sound great with a FM converter.

I agree with Stuart, the tubes sound better.
Delco switched to transistors in 62. Stu you have the good one in your 61.
Steve P sent me an old 60 radio, but the heat sinks and transformers were on the left side.
Thie one above looks like a 57 but would be worth opening up the dash a little to fit it.

definitely have a used 64 am radio. may have to look to see if I have any knobs for it. Might not have knobs for the full size as I think it was from a tempest. PM me if interested.

I wouldn't need the knobs for it. Just the radio.

I was going to have my 60 Wonderbar converted. Do you have an idea of the cost?

Steve, I would convert a transistor AM and leave the tube radios alone.
I'd be willing to unburden you of that Wonderbar. :D

I also probably have a 64 AM laying around. If I have it, it's yours.

I also have a 64 AM/FM that I paid WAY too much years ago and it didn't work right. I complained to the guy I bought it from, but he passed away shortly there after. Any interest in that??

I'm not interested in the AM/FM. It would make good winter E-Bay material though.
I have a 63 AM/FM that works as good as one possibly could. As a matter of fact, I just had a new volume control put in it.

Stuart, it connects similar to the FM adapter, using the co-ax antenna cable.

John in NJ has a nice looking product and he seems to go all out on the conversion. WHat I am doing is transferrable from car to car and doesn't alter the originality of the radio.

Will your device work with tube radios?

I don't want to hijack this thread, but as long as you're talking about radios, I'm in need of a rear speaker (package shelf speaker) for a 1966 Pontiac. Actually any mid-60s GM 6x9 speaker will work. Condition is not important as long as the frame is intact and the speaker wire/plug are there.

Pitt, yes it will. The radio thinks the signal it is seeing is a broadcast station, loud and clear, independent of whether it is solid state (transistorized) or hollow-state (vacuum tube). I have not come up with the version for the 6V cars -YET! (depends on demand)

Tim, IMO your best bet is to post a wanted ad in the Big Parts Wanted. Your results may vary.
