PHS question
 

Bought my first GTO when I was 15 back in 1978 from the original owner, still had the original tires with 43,000 miles! It was a '70 GTO and I kept it for a couple of years. Still had some of the paperwork on it so I decided to order the PHS on it the other day for curiousity sake. It was Palamino Copper, never was sure if it was Baja gold or the Copper, so now I know. It was a very early production '70 model and has a footnote saying "Consigned Under Bulletin Agreement Dated 8-04-69" Has anyone seen this on a PHS before, I'm assuming this meant it might have been a car used in a show, or possibly an employee vehicle for a short time before it went to the dealer? There is a shipping date of 9-04-69 and an "interest from" date of 10-08-69, so I'm assuming it was used for something in that time, just curious to see if others had this same footnote on their PHS? I have PHS on a very early '70 GTO with the same notes on it. I will scan it and post later today.

I wonder if the bulletin would have something to do with a model year price increase, maybe this bulletin allowed cars to be consigned at the lower price before the increase...:noidea:

The PHS I have has the same note.

"Consigned under bulletin agreement dated August 4, 1969"

Car has a shipped date of 9/08/69, Interest from 9/18/69.

This car is Atoll Blue w/ white cordova top, and is resting comfortably in a salvage yard up the road.

Thanks for the replies, could be something to do with pricing as Mike said too. I'm sure someone out there knows what it means in Pontiac lingo for sure but was just curious as this old stuff is always interesting to figure out. The word consigned can mean several different things from set aside for some special purpose to just simply meaning delivered to, so it leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Rick ... this is Rick. Cars shipped to dealerships prior to the official start of a model year. Today the term is called "bailment". The car is shipped to the dealership with a window sticker that doesn't include pricing. For early model year cars the term may have been consignment back then instead of the current term of bailment. Official pricing is not released to dealerships until official model year release (typically around the end of September). Dealerships are given rough estimates of invoice price increases if they want to sell a vehicle prior to official public introduction. If they guess wrong they may not make as much money or could make more.

The Interest From is the start date that the Dealership had to start paying the Floorplan Interest.

Hey, that makes sense Rick, I should have known you might know the answer! On the interest, the dealer got a little free time on this car then and it was probably sold to the guy I bought it from shortly thereafter. I always wanted to get the PHS on it just to see if there was anything unusual about the car, so it was nice to see it finally. The car was basically unaltered when I got it other than the brakes. It had a power booster when I got it, but it had drum brakes. Always wondered about that, but the PHS showed nothing in the way of power brakes, so I assume the dealer added that before or after the sale. Thanks for the replies, Rick
