Carb Tuning, Insight Please!!
 

okay, i will go ahead and show my lack of carb knowledge, so here goes. this is about my blower engine, 474, 6-71 on top, pretty middle of the road cam, [email protected] in, [email protected], middle .500's lifts. it idles at about 1100rpm's, no problems, but if i go any lower, for a nuce rumpity rump idle, i get the ol' surge idle. my question, is there any way to tune this out of the edelbrock 750 carbs??(iknow iknow,) they run great for me, i have an a/f meter, and they are tuned pretty good throughout the range of idle to wide open. it's just my idle rpm i'm wondering about. when it;s cold, it idles great, about 900rpm, nice and lumpy. but when i;m heated up to 180 degrees, it's 1100rpm or nothing. any lower, when i pop it in drive, and i get the surge thing going on. is this the way it is? or can i open up some idle air bleeds or the like and get a lower rpm idle???

ps, i have about 14 inches of vac at idle on the carbs now....

I guess you have a functional choke on your carb?
With engine at operating temperature, trans in drive, brakes on, slowly choke off the primaries.
If it speeds up the idle circuit is insufficient and needs to be opened some for adequat fuel mixture delivery.
