Trunk mat, jack and spare info needed
 

Does anyone know if the trunk mats used in TATA's were the same as other 79's? In regards to jacks and spare tires, are they date coded in anyway and if so how do you read the codes? Thanks for any info.

I know the trunk mats were all the same. I 90% sure the jacks were also. The spare tire is coded in some way, just not sure how.

not to thread jack you but does anyone know how the stock jack and spare mount in the trunk? a pic would be best!

My 78 has an inflata spare, black jack and base.

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a chance to post on the other website yet. Are there any 1979 T/A owners that know that they still have the original spare and if so what brand is it? I've seen reference to Goodyears for 1979 but am pretty sure they used BF Goodrich on 1977's.

mine 79 is a bfg space saver spare

Did your 79 T/A come with the Donut style spare or the space saver inflator style spare.My 79 Formula has the original space saver inflator style spare with the Blue inflator bottle in it as well as a friend of mine's do'es.He is the original owner of his T/A and has the paper work to show that GM Pontiac Motor Division had a Recall for the Blue inflator bottle's back in the day because of exploding issues.Does anyone else know about this?So they did come both way's.If you give me your e-mail address I'd be glad to shoot you out a picture of what mine looks like.

All the 79's had inflatable spares with small blue air bottles.
As I recall the proper installation of the spare tire components is printed
on the decal under the trunk lid. I have never seen any inflatable spares
from the 70's that weren't BF Goodrich. They invented it and had a patent on
it, so I doubt anyone else could have made it.

Does anyone else have a problem with the jack hitting the speaker?

SD 455 Formula - Thanks for the pic offer. I have a few pics but was unsure as to what brand spare is correct for a 79. I had never heard that about the inflator bottles. It is interesting. I thought all 79's came with the space-saver. It would be great if you could post a pic of the recall paperwork. Thanks for the info

gtohurstjudge - I also thought they were all BF's but I thought I saw a thread somewhere that said they may have used Goodyears too but now I can't find the thread. I also saw some TATA manuals for sale on e-bay and with them is a pamphlet on Goodyear space savers. I will try to attach a link as I can't seem to figure out how to add a picture

Tinindian6702 - I haven't put 6 x9 speakers in my car yet but I used to have a 77 TA and had the same problem. The jack post layed right up next to the speaker. Just like in the pic that Tonyqt provided. I'm sure I will have the same problem with the 79.

Where can I buy a jack retainer bracket for the jack and lug wrench ???

My 79 T/A has its original inflate-a-spare, and it's a GoodYear.

Is your's a Norwood or Van Nuys car? I am wondering if they possibly used Goodyear for Van Nuys and BF Goodrich for Norwood. Just a theory though.
