Red Fender Liners
 

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with some info before I tackle this project....

I recently purchased a set of repop red fender liners for my 66 GTO. There are no installation instructions and no mounting hardware. According to Performance Years (where I purchased them), they don't come with any of the afore-mentioned items.

Has anyone installed a set of these? How difficult/easy is it? Anything I need to do/know to install? How are they attached them to the car?
Any tips on keeping them clean (maybe a coat of wax before installation?)

I have the original red liners on my 67 (PHS documented for my car) GTO and they are held in by what looks like small flat head sheet metal screws with a hex head, zinc plated (dull silver). Mine are the original factory liners with the original fasteners and original to my car. I do wax mine to keep them looking nice and suprisingly they have held up very well for fourty year old liners. They look very nice on my car with the original HURST wheels.

I have a set of repops that I'll install someday and they did not come with hardware or instructions. Saved about $50 by purchasing from The Parts Place on eBay, otherwise I would have supported PY.

Do a search for a thread in the '66-67 tech section by member Andre where he restored his Tiger Gold '66. It's a good 12 or more pages long. There are several posts and pictures of his installation of the repro fender liners.

Also, I've read that either the '66 or '67 service manual (or maybe both) has instructions for installation. I plan on getting a copy before I install mine. Good luck.

I have a 67 GTO with red fender liners on the build sheet. I have a set of the reproductions and also have the originals but they are beat up. On my car (which was still wearing its original paint when I got it), the fender liners were installed under the wheel well trim. There were no additional screws holding the liners in place. Hope this helps.
