WEt flow at home: I shot White spray paint-can atop a Manifold plenum, while bolted to the Head, then put the House Central Vac hose (with plastic funnel taped-up) to the Chamber. Very clear indicationof paint fall-out. Grindings occur on runner roof, inner bend of manifold-to-head, sparingly on valvebowl short-turn and backwall, then some chamber brow. Proceedure: EXH closed. Intake closed, but openable by hand. One hand shoots paint into the manifold while the other hand works the Intake Valve at low-lifts to 0.55" lift. A few shots & check your grafitti. Rinse (Rat-tail file or grinder) & repeat. I am quite please at the lack of concern for the 1,2,7,8 Pushrod bulges. NOw the focus is only the inner 3,4,5,6 pushrod bulges, and the Chamber brows that were are told to be vary careful about grinding away. ================================================== Squish area would be the chamber edge that ought-not be blended, for ping-miti or kernel-swirl sustainment. ================================================== Yea I'm cheap, but I did drive to work today (21F) no choke, and filled on 78 Octane, and not a hint of ping at 34totalADV. The 48s doing low-compression is probably it, butt hey I think it flows. |
I believe this is a big area for Pontiac engines to improve. High piston speeds, relatively severe short side radius, relatively small ports.

Leave it to H.I.S. to find a way to run on 78 octane gas! But where to buy it???

Mark, You forgot to mention to make sure the spark plugs are installed when drawing vaccum.
