Radio Question

Guys:

I am looking for some ideas on what to do about tunes for the 65 convert. I do not want to hack the dash. Does anyone know any manufacturers that still make a shaft radio to fit the dash? I know some guys put the new din mounted ones in the glovebox. Is that a pain when you are driving to change the station? Your input is appreciated.

Thanks
Peter

I use one from Custom Autosound that has Kenwood internals, fits with no problem, sounds good, and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Pete,

Custom Autosound makes shaft radios that look close to a factory type for about $200.00 @ www.customautosound.com

Recently there have been new vendors that will convert your stock AM radio to a modern AM/FM stereo reciever. They are not user friendly as the push buttons are now for show and you have to guess where on the AM dial corilates to the FM stations.

This year there have been vendors selling stock looking AM/FM stereos for the 64-67 GTO. They are modern electronic 4 channel recievers putting out between 25-50 watts per channel. They look identical to the stock AM/FM radios. Not cheap however.

Here is a ebay link to one of them.

Hope this helps

i put a nice stereo system in my 64, in the glove box.
I kept the original radio in the dash. looks great.
Most new (decent) stereos come with remotes, therefore
no problem changing stations, volume or cd/mp3 player, songs.
No one can tell that there's a nice unit in the glove box either.

i do need to have the glove box door open when in use tho.
