I am off today, so I decided to check out local pick-a-part. I got a couple qjets and took some pics. Not a lot of Pontiacs today. Convertible delta88 was a clean car. I don't know why they junk it.

Man, I need to visit one of these.

I lived in L.A. for 2 years. I loved going to a different Pull a part yard every weekend! I could not believe some of the cars I saw. This was before I knew about Ebay and the whole internet thing. I would look for parts for my cars, and if I saw something I could get and take to a swap meet, I'd grab it. If I was still there, I'd have my own Ebay store with great rust free parts for sale. I sure miss Pomona swap meet also! David

I have too many stories about that place...good and bad.

Karch, yes that's the one. Memorial lane is gone so they are getting more old cars now. My favorite junkyard was Ecology in Montebello.

I have checked local san bernardino area pick a parts nothing not even any 80s vehicle. What a difference a year can make.

Pick-n-Pull in Modesto sucks.

There's a wrecking in Vallejo CA that has a bunch of 60's B-body PMDs. Its called Brians auto salvage. I think they're still in business... I haven't been there in a couple of years.

I have trouble getting to the 'yards' these days. I need to get a parts runner vehicle :)

ahh yes, spent many an afternoon roaming round wrecks to the scent of grease, antifreeze and urine....

I had heard you were cheap (asking some friends to pay for your kids at Universal Studios, feed them, souveniors, etc), but do you get used antifreeze at the wrecking yards too?

And regarding the urine...they don't actually charge to use the outhouses there...take a few minutes and walk to the front and use them, will you. It's disgusting to urinate amongst the cars :rain:

Yeah, I also get my motor oil there, I just run it through some cloth and pick out the debris:D

That looks like a solid GrandmaVille.. I wonder if the 455 is gone...

... and snakes in the high weeds. Not had too much luck in the yards here. Mostly 90s wrecks. I found a '74 plain jane Nova once; that was about it for 70s anything.

I spotted a burned out Bandit T/A at a local auto wreckers today. It looked like a nice car before it burnt to a crisp. There is a '65 Catalina with 8 lug drums on the rear at the same yard.... I might have to grab those.

I went junkyarding last weekend to some PYP's and Ecology's; found a couple of 77-78 TA's and a what looked like a '74 Formula 350 (still had the engine). Not much left on the TA's though.

It looks like even the mid-late 70's birds are drying up. I did see quite a few 84-86 TA's, even a couple of 94 TA's (of course the LS1 motors were long gone). It's all about being at the right place at the right time. In between working/money for the resto, junkyards are a cool way to pass the time; it's the thrill of the chase. One even had a '67 'bird in the owner's private stash that he was selling for $2500. The bad thing was that it was punched hard in the right rear and had frame damage :(

Yall have concrete junk yards!!! Man I am usually rummaging through knee high weeds to get through all my junk yards. Except for one thats pretty close the only thing is the guy always wants an arm and a leg for everything. He has a ton of TA's and Firebirds he will only sell the complete motors and believe me not for cheap.

Of course we do. We also have concrete rivers, and no weeds in those, usually. Heck, usually no water in there either ;)

Do you know if he has any 70 RAIII motors? WS block/12 heads.

When I lived in calif in the 70's I used to go there every day after work. I got out of work at 2oclock so I was there when they turned the cars. I picked up every year tri powers then also munci 4spds and a Hemi 4 sp. I put it behind a pontiac engine in a 64 barracuda. never drove car couldn't pas up the deal that was offered. Back then hot rod parts were always at the local pick a part yard. I think it was in bellflower or whittier. long time ago but it was fun and wish there was one in my area. hotchief
