snow tires 2005
 

I have recently put on Nokkeans,A tire from finland) 245/45 17 They are the RSI iseries. since I have put them on everytime I accelerate from either a slow speed 15mph or high speed 65-70mph i go in to low traction and the car alarms.\this is on dry pavement its usually only for a few sec. but what can i do... any suggestions.

the tires are suppose to be great in bad weather. even better than the blizaks.

does anyone have any different ideas. I know it has not snowed yet in the north east but i am very curious.

Make sure all the tires are the same size and inflation. It's unlikely you're breaking traction but the computer thinks you are. This means that the sensors are sending different speed signals to it. If the inflation's low, possibly the rear tires are squatting while the front of the car rises and it's enough to throw the sensors off.

There's no real reason to run reduced tire pressure with snows or any tire, the only time that helps is on sand where it keeps the vehicle from sinking into it.

Actually, running the pressure low on dry pavement can be dangerous (remember the Explorer tire problems?) because it causes heat build-up. The potential's greater with snows due to tread squirm. I'd run the pressure relatively high to increase the tread bite and improve handling, as well as being safer.

If the tires are like the Blizzaks, they have lots of sipes and a very soft compound. It probably is folding the tread over and losing traction under light throttle.

I run the Blizzaks on all 4 on my 02' 40th gp. I don't have traction problems, had to change driving habits a bit cause they spin easily, & getting low on tread. New ones for next year for sure!! Dave K.

I have a set of Nokian Hakkapelittas for one of my cars, although I've never used them in the snow (they came with the car when I bought it used, and I don't drive that car in the winter.) However, I've had them on the car and driven on dry roads with them, and had no problems. They do feel a little more 'mushy' than summer tires but otherwise they rode well and had good traction and handling. The guy who I bought the car from said they were the best snow tires he'd ever had, which is what I've heard from everyone who has them.
