Welding Time! Hockey Pucks? Yes or No

It's now time to weld the 3 piece trunk floor pan and quarters on my 68 gto. I want to keep the body as square as possible, no stress. I am considering making some wooden hockey pucks to simulate body bushings. Would I need to plane the wood to the exact thickness of the bushings? I also want to put the car up on jackstands. Would this put stress anywhere? Thanks

I used 7inch sections of fence post all cut exactly the same. So as you can see from the picture I went much farther than the bushing size. I needed it for access to my inner rockers. Its like having it on a jig to keep it straight. According to my resources all the bushings on my 70 LeMans are the same thickness between the frame and body with the exception of the last two by the rear bumper, one on each side. I don't know the thickness differance here. However the spacers fit perfectly with the others installed too.

Very inovative idea, 3 chiefs. May I use it?

That is one cool design 3 Chiefs. I like that alot better than my wood idea. Thank you very much for the input. :beerchug:

Yes you can Old Goat 67, but only if you promise to save an old cars life. I am sure you figured it out already but I used threaded rod to secure the body back down.

My Old Goat keeps saving my life. It's only fair play.
That's just what I need. I called it 1/2 frame off!
Got no rust anywhere, just need to freshen all up to par.
Been trying to decide whether to take body off the frame, but that's all I need to do!
Thanks Dude,
Charles
