Body mount help on frame
 

See how big this body mount hole has gotten? There are washers I can buy to repair this area and bring it back to the correct size. My question is should I just weld it on top of the old hole or butt weld it into the frame. Everything will be blasted first. I think butt welding would be best but I would like more opinions. Thanks

I would butt weld it,but you are going to have to make sure you have the washer centered were the hole was originally

butt weld it. Be aware that the washer could be smaller diameter than what you cut out inorder to get to "good" metal....just a thought.

Here are some pics of my repair. I could'nt wait for the "washers" so I just took some measurements and welded up the circumference.

i did one of those on a 66 gto i had. i got a big washer to fit the body mount. then just kept inlarging the hole to fit, and welded it in flush ,and ground it down.

Thanks 3 Chiefs....I just realized the first picture is of a center body mount, but it is representative of the 3 holes I had to repair.

matador, that looks perfect! did you use a hole saw to make it perfectly round? my frame has just one that's not too, too bad on the rear rail. i think that's the only way to go. thanks for the great idea!

oh i forgot to ask: 3 chiefs, what is it that you used to hold up the body off the frame?

I used a die grinder with a 1" abrasive bit to get the hole round and sized for the bushing.

Those are end posts or gate posts used for chainlink fence. Line posts might be to thin. I set the stop on my saw to 7 inches so they would all be the same length. I welded washers to each end and lined them all up and layed a straight edge across them all and they were dead on equal to each other. I used threaded rod to secure the body back down.
If you do it this way take precautions and protect your nose from the galvanized fumes when welding, you know the drill.
