A 56 Chieftain and a 428cid.
Hi:)
About 10 years ago I bought a 56 Chieftain 2 dr post, the car was originally from NJ, it had never been licensed in Norway and still isn’t, it was imported in 86. The engine was stuck and the Trans were apart, so I decided to find another engine and Trans for it. So I bought a 78 safari stw basket case with a 69 428 engine and a TH 400 in it and drove it home.800 miles. And I have had some American cars thru the years, but I have never experienced something as powerful as this :drive: , especially since the Catalina was loaded with a 425 olds engine, TH 400 Trans and other stuff. So I suppose the Catalina’s weight was about 5700 lbs. But after that I had to move and couldn’t take the cars with me, so I had to sell both the car and the engine. But the good news is that, I have now bought it back again. But I haven’t got it home yet, I have to way until the snow is gone. So I don’t have the numbers for the engine yet, but I checked out the numbers last time, I owned it and I remember that the engine block and heads were from 69. So I have some questions. Were there many Pontiacs, who were delivered with 428 engines in 69? And how much horsepower was it in these engines? |
Great Pontiac Story--in 69 you could get the 428 -390 HP in the Grand Prix SJ --My friend owned one--fast car.
