Bolting Torque Converter To Flexplate ???
 

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of bolting my torque converter to the flexplate and would like to know the best way to turn the motor to get to the 3 bolt holes needed to mount the two together.

1/2 " breaker bar/ratchet, and a 15/16 socket on the crank pulley bolt. Easier if you have the plugs out.

This is ok, this will not damage bolt or crank or pulley????

Pulling plugs will make it turn easier, correct, less compression

You will be fine...no damage will occur...just turn it clockwise.

Yep, pulling plugs will reduce turning effort required due to NO compression to fight.

Sounds like you are well on your way to being done! We'll have to meet up sometime this year!

Position the flex plate with two of the bolt holes near the bottom of the engine, two of the bolts can be installed with very littile movement of the engine.

The easiest way is with the tool made to do the job,a flexplate turning tool,JMO.

No stretching to reach the ratchet up on the balancer bolt,it's all right there where the work is going on.

Ditto, with this tool you can stay right under there and get the job done, fine tool.

Just hook up the ignition and have a freind bump the key.

i probably would have done it a couple years back.

thanks guys, just didn't want to damage anything. I have done the balancer bolt many times in the past, but the last one I did, I destroyed the balancer bolt washer (cracked in every direction).

yes getting very close, after t.c bolts are in, all I have is fuel cell and line installation, distributor to coil hook up, front of the motor (pulley's, fan, radiator) and I am ready to fire. Should be a week or 2 away from firing. I am sure we will meet up at one the race events as I plan on getting to a couple this season for tuning.

I have seen that tool before, just didn't know how easy it was to use. Looked like you needed a lot of room, and was very concern about knuckle bustin. If it works that well, I may have to pick me up one of those to add to my tool collection.

You can buy a flexplate turner relatively cheap. It is a good tool to have as for it is great for removing broken roller lifters from the lifter bore.

multi-tasking tool, don't see many of those in the garage unless modified.

I mean actual multi-taskers. Almost all tools are multi-taskers, but only being what they actually do, and also being a hammer (eg. ratchet: ratchets & hammers, screwdriver:, screws & hammers, wrench: wrenches & hammers etc.) LOL.

Like we all haven't done that.
