Where exactly does the shifter mount?
 

No, I'm not vying for The Most Stupid Question of the Week Award--I have a column shift '67 LeMans that I'm putting a dual-gate into, and looking from the bottom of the car, I don't see any place where these would bolt into. I'm assuming the floor would be the same whether column shifter or floor shifter and would have receiving nuts built into the floor, like the ones for seat belts. I haven't removed the carpet to look because I thought I could figure it out by looking from underneath. Ditto for the console. Please help.

I don't know about the LeMans, but my 68' Firebird also had the column shifter originally. It now has a B&M Z-Gate floor shifter, but I did have to do some drilling because it didn't have any mounting holes. Wasn't a big deal, but one word of caution though-Don't get too carried away with the drilling or you could drill a hole right through the transmision!

Use sheet metal screws. Dunno whats under your car but under my 2ndgen there's some reinforcement that got in the way when I tried to bolt mine, after drilling large bolt holes I had to hack the tunnel and use speedy nuts, kinda hack but it worked, woulda been better if I'd just drilled for sheet metal screws.

OK mine doesn't have that reinforcement so I will be able to use nuts/bolts. My exhaust guy told me today to put the console where I want it but not drill holes for it, get the shifter lined up where it has to be, mark, drill and bolt the shifter, then go back and mark holes for the console and drill and bolt that. Does this sound like the correct proceedure? Thanks y'all.
