Rebuilding AC Delco Breather Caps
 
Have any of you guys ever "re-stuffed" your breather caps and if so what did you use? It looks like a kind of real coarse steel wool.

A friend of mine who worked at a dealership said they would put some gas in them and light them on fire to burn off the old grease buildup. I guess that would work with painted ones, but probably not with chrome ones.

I bet that Birkbile 'Gum Cutter' would eat that stuff up. Worth a try. It really does a number on petroleum products of all kinds.

I always thought it looked like a Brillo pad in there.
