Aftermarket Hood Hinges(AMES)

My Dad purchased some hood hinges for his 64 and is curious about the coating. He thinks they are already phosphate coated(or zinc coated???) and they don't need anything else. I see they are coated in some sort of oil so I'm assuming they are bare metal. What do you guys do with them? Paint them/leave them like they are???

I left mine the way they came.

Same here. Mine have been on the car 2 years, still look great.

Not sure what those new ones look like. I had my good originals gray phosphated at www.detailplating.com
Excellent job and appearance. It's a coarse gray non reflective finish.

Speaking of hood hinges...

I have a 65 and have installed a set of new hinges from PY. My issue is on the passenger side the hood sits about a quarter inch higher than the fender. I've tried every position within the adjustment slots and can't get it all the way down. The driver's side is perfect.

Anyone else experienced this with repro hinges and if so, what is the cure? This is actually the second set of the newer style (phosphate color) and both sets gave me the same problem. Also have new springs. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ken,

I have the same problem, my hood is a 1/4" higher on the passenger side. I shimed it and still no luck. I bought the new hinges hoping to eliminate this problem, but it didn't work. My old hinge held it up a 1/4" also, but I could push the hood down to level it. This is normally a sign of a worn out hinge so I replaced them. The new hinge I can't push it down.

Mine fit great, work great. Like it just rolled off the assembly line.
