what type of head gaskets do you guys recommend.

I know, I'm full of questions today.

What heads? Compression ratio? Adders?

092 10.5:1 will have a 125 shot of some juice.

Felpro 1016 should work fine but Cometics are the best. RSB Motorsports have the best price for Cometics if you decide to go that route.

what is the difference between the felpro and cosmetics?

The felpros gaskets and are usually made out of specialised fibrous materials and usually used by the automotive industry. Cosmetics refer to coloured substances, typically worn by women, some times in rather high amounts, on their faces.

lol Sorry I couldn't resist. Cometic gaskets usually have a steel plate sandwiched between two thin gaskets and are thought to be pretty much blowproof. They are about four times the cost of the felpros.

Just a little FYI. I have had my heads off three times and reused the original Felpros with no issues. Also have 12 1/4 to 1 CR. There are others on this forum who have done the same.

I too have had good luck with the Felpros, however I just installed cometics on my new IA II. Jim Butler swears by them. He told me to torque them 100- 105 lbs. then retorque. They are also supposed to be reusable but that's not usually my style. they consist of three layers of ??? metal with rivots in all four corners.

While MLS (multi-layered steel, what Cometec sells) gaskets are the "rage", they're not necessary for such a build. The Felpro is the standard by which all others are measured. Also, the MLS gaskets have very specific surface finish requirements, and are much less forgiving than the fibre gaskets. If your heads and block have been resurfaced by a modern machine (wth a CBN or similar cutter), the finish will be fine. If they were done on an older style "broach", the RA (roughness average, formerly refered to as "RMS") will be too high for the MLS gaskets. We (CVMS) recently installed a modern surfacer for this very reason. ALL the modern engines (aluminum heads AND blocks, for the most part) use MLS technology. We couldn't get a factory "approved" finish on a Neon head with the old one. We can use them to "brush your teeth" now... (:-

The 1970 455 was considered the best designed head gasket and Butler Performance I belive owns the original Fitzgerald dies or knows who does and he then has an endless supply so you may want to contact the Butler family (Butler Performance) and give them a try, this is what I use and I purchased mine through the Butlers, absolutely wonderful people to deal with.
