Thanks Shaker455HO

First off,I put this post in the race section because I feel more people will see it than in the business section.

Over the winter,I sent my Dominator to Shaker455HO,(Jeff).I asked if he could go over the carb,to see if there was any hidden horsepower to be found. He changed a few things that he felt would work.He got the carb back to me quickly;then met me more than halfway to deliver it!

Jeff wanted me to bring the car up to him once the weather got warmer,so he could tinker with it.My g/f and I brought the car up yesterday.Jeff dug in and did his thing. With vacuum gauge in hand,he got the gauge to read 8" of vacuum.I thought this was a good thing,as the cam is .272 @.050.His buddy Lenny Caverly came down, and they were bouncing ideas off each other. This trip really paid off for us.

We would go for a ride after each adjustment;the car has totally lost its "muddiness" when driving. Its actually fun to drive now. Before the tune, the car would be a nitemare to drive anywhere under 4000 rpm.Now the whole power range is smooth.Plus,it pulls 17" of vacuum while cruising.Stab the throttle, and the car goes,no more popping and farting. He had the car idling for a bit while tuning,it never loaded up either.

The final thing he did was bump up the total timing to 38.I tried this in the past,at the track, and saw no difference. This could have been because the carb was so far out,I dont know. This time however, the car liked it.

We went for our last ride, and all I have to say is WOW.Leaning on the car at about 60mph,the nose comes up and doesnt stop pulling. We did an off idle acceleration;it blew off the tires all the way up to 6600 in first, hit second, still roasting the tires, crossed the center line, and started to go to the right.I had to let off to get the car straight.Never ever did the car do that. We`ll be hitting the track in a few weeks to see if we get an improvement in e.t.I`m happy with the driveability alone.

All in all,it was a great learning day for me.Jeff and Lenny thru somemore ideas I could try at the track.

If anyone has a carb thats a litlle finicky, call Jeff,I`m sure he`ll be more than happy to help out.He proved to me yesterday that a Dominator can be run on the street without problems.

Thanks again,Mark.

We didnt rent the track. We did everything on the street.Honestly,if it doesnt go any faster at the track,it will be fine with me.The car is so smooth now;its like a different car all together.

I guess up at Epping,Sunday is the test and tune.Jeff wants me to come up again on a Sunday to make some runs.Just gotta find some time now.

Yes,I go to LVD.Its closer to me han Epping.LVD is 160 mile round trip:yesterday was 300 mile round trip.

I wouldnt hesitate for Jeff or Lenny to do any work.Very honest guys.

Mark.

It looks like another "Jeff bending over backwards to help, going above and beyond the call of duty, friendly expert service, good time," story!

There are two kinds of Pontiac people in this world, those who Jeff has selflessly helped, and those who he will eventually selflessly help!

I fit into the 'selflessly helped' category!

Jeff's a great guy...even though he makes me push non-running vehicles around a wet yard at dusk with lots of mosquitos and no beer. :fencing:

...But that's a small price to pay for his skills.
