64 tempest custom vert
 

I recently bought a 64 temepst custom convertible and im wondering what the trim code 209 and acc code a49 b70 496 means and paint code 21a on the tag on the firewall.
THe car only has 42k miles on it but someone repainted it years ago because they didnt like the aqua color.

That is a most interesting looking car. More pictures please. It is hard to find the Tempest custom convertible, and that one looks unmolested, just dusty.

i will get some more pictures once i get it running and washed. it has been stored indoors since the 80's and hasnt been driven for almost 10 yrs so im going through everything right now. My father inlaw bought it in Spokane Wa in the 80s and brought it back to MN in 90 or 91 where is has barely been driven so it pretty much rust free. I pulled the brake drums off and the paint is still on all of the springs in there.

That is one sweet little '64. I love these cars.

Clean it up and drive the wheels off it. Then put 'em back on and drive some more.

No power top on the Tempest Custom converts. I saw one in a classic car junkyard here and noticed these huge long springs in place of the power top hydraulic cylinders. Going to the boneyard is fun, whether you're scoring some parts (I bought the V8 frame mounts off that Tempest that day) or learning something new.

Have you seen the pictures of this 'vert? I think it was in Car Craft or PHR within the past year. I plan to use the pix to help me sort out the trim on my 2-door post. I think I have a few more saved, as well as the link to the article, if interested.

The codes you asked about are:
A49 - Seat Belts Front
B70 - IP PAD/COV UPR - Dash Pad

The trim code, 206; 496 and the paint code 21A are not in any info that I have. I would take a guess that this car was built in Fremont. There isn't a lot of documentation on the codes used there. PHS would be your best bet.

not true power tops were a option have a 64 tempet custom pts car power top power windows power steerig my main comp is down so i can't load up pics but the car was purchased from the original owner back in the late 70s

Okay, I guess the power top was not standard equipment on the Tempest, like it was on the Lemans and GTO converts.:o

Surprised me to see those long springs for actuating the top, I had figured they all would have come with a power top until I saw that car in the boneyard.
