aftermarket accelerator pedals
I posted this in a different section and didn't get any replies so I'll try here. My 1968 Firebird's accelerator lever broke yesterday and I'm looking for a replacement. I don't want to replace it with a stock pedal. I had to contort my arm around my heads just to get the bolts out of the firewall and don't want to think about reinstalling it. Any one have an aftermarket pedal set up they love? I'm just starting my search and I'm leaning towards a Lokar floormount pedal for the easy install? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Beef up your pedal. I had to bend my pedal so it wouldnt bottom out on the floor. So I could get more travel on the cable. Lead foot! http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...S/100_0159.jpg

It seems like trying to install any kind of aftermarket set-up for the first time is going to take just as long or longer than putting a stock replacement back in. The job is halfway done now anyway. Besides, this is not the kind of job your going to have to do often or ever again.;)

I like that pedal beefing 400 plus has a photo of. I think I'll try that, My pedal did the same thing, years of standing on it took it out.

is that the same modification in the Untold Secrets book about Mark Donahue? I've never talked to anyone that actually did the mod successfully. Inquiring minds want to know! |
Buy the first gen Camaro LOKAR pedal.
That's what I got and I love it. You'll need their cable as well. Get the universal 24" one. |

If you care about handling and some of the secrets that Penske and Donahue used YES. Otherwise its a waste of time. There are templates for relocating the upper control arms, templates for JL-7 brakes, and other suspension type mods. All of the things that made their cars dominate Trans-Am in 67-69. Ignore the small-block stuff so you won't get a rash.
I bought my copy ~12-14 years ago but have seen it on Amazon recently. |
