More Billions and Trillions ...
 

I read all the negatives about the guy, but I'm starting to get desperate.

I've been trying to find a decent, 4 spd console for my '68 GTO.

He has one, but it's black and I need teal blue :(

He said he would re-dye it for another $20, totaling $720. The price for a top quality part may not be out of line, but I just don't know.

I am concerned about dying black to another color ... I would think a color match, would damn-near be impossible.

Do you think he would be able to get-er-done?

Just dashes can restore your existing console or a used one and color it to match exactly. If the plastic frame on your console is fine but the
vinyl covering is just messed up, let just dashes restore it for you.

Find a good solid core console and send it to Just dashes like Gtohurstjudge stated. About $450.00 total and it will look like new...about 12 weeks turn around time this time of year.

I haven't tried Just Dashes. I did forward a picture of one that's available to American Classic Restorations. They wanted $1,000 to $1,200 to restore it!!

I don't know if that one is still available. I e-mailed the guy on 6-21 and he hasn't responded. I will try to contact Just Dashes and the seller.

I could live with $450 in the right color Teal Blue.

Just Dashes did a 69 GTO dash for me this spring and it looked like new when it was done and included putting new vinyl on the glove box door.....with shipping it was $900.00 to my door. They quoted me the $450.00 for the console in January; but I was fortunate to find one in mint shape.

Don't get that desperate! And I am not referring to the price.

I would think you could get a reproduction base dyed at a reputable interior shop for much less than the $720 via B&T.

Like Uncle Judge stated, I wouldn't get that desperate yet.

If re-dying is only $20 I would keep looking.

I read that the repro's are bad news and guys that have bought them are returning them P/O'd. The so-called reproductions are bare plastic base (no vinyl) and low quality with missing parts. OPGI even states, "This is a replacement console for an existing or broken console, not for converting a non-console car to a console car.".

That's what I'm trying to do. Everyone, including our sponsor (PY), is getting them from the same source, so the end results will be the same.

I have found a used one, but I can't believe the prices I'm getting to restore it, including replacing the vinyl. American Classic Restorations quoted $1,000 to $1,200 based on photos I sent them. That doesn't include the cost to purchase the old console.

I also contact Just Dashes by phone and e-mail and have yet to get a price from them.

I will take everyone's advice though, about staying away from Billions and Trillions.

If you want, I can go pre check the piece out for you. May be hard to see what it really is if he has already done some repairs, but might be worth while.

Personally I would hold out for a better deal. Amazing that I had dozens of these 25 years ago and probably gave $5 or less for them; worse I probably gave them away to friends.

Try these two guys: Steve Phillips 918-745-0784 or Larry Peterson 918-428-1137. Steve has a parts business; Larry works part time for Bikerfox, but sells his own stuff on the side.

wow, I really lucked out. One of the guys in this forum had a nice one from his parts car. It needed a new lid but that was easy. I bought it for around $300.00. Just keep looking , one will turn up. Teal may be a little tougher, but they can be dyed easily enough.

I have this post in two locations trying to find a member with a console for sale.

I had sent a picture of one that I'm consideing purchasing, to Just Dashes, but it has two gauges installed in it and is pretty tired.

After reading the response I received, I thought they were out-of their-minds :faint:

The console has a cover, but no lid. Just dashes wanted $450 to restore it and another $100 to dye it the correct teal blue. They restore only in black?! And lastly, they said oh, that doesn't include a lid.

That also doesn't include the $100 to purchase the tired out console.

I didn't speak with either one about buying a console from them.

I found a console in poor shape for sale from a "private party". It had damaged vinyl, two gauges cut into it and is missing parts.

I wanted to get an idea of what it would take to have that one restored before I bought it.

I forwarded the pics I got from the seller to Just Dashes and they came back with a quote that "killed" the deal.

I'm looking for one in better shape.

Use to find those things all over the place around here for nothing, I had a good half dozen at one time for no good reason.

I've tried calling Larry but no answer, can't help but thing there is still one around here at a good deal.

4 speed consoles for just about any year GTO, or musclecar for that matter, have always been in high demand. May have been that years ago, to some people, they were common. But now 40 year old used car parts in perfect condition will pull big $! I have seen about 100 or more, busted-up, missing pieces, drilled for a Vacuum gauge? or 8-track player. Cracked, pitted, gouged, scratched, bent &/or broken 4 speed consoles in the past 20 years, some of them were so bad it just makes you want to cry! There was a really nice '65-66 GTO console with original chrome & plastic that sold for what I feel was the correct price. it was on ebay last week. I'll see if I can post a link to it.

Patience (which I don't have) pays-off ...
 

I was put in contact with Ron Johnson at Potamac Pontiac. He found a console for me.

It doesn't get any better than that. It's black and has to be dyed, but it is a GTO console.

billions and trillions wanted 225.00 for a door latch. I think there KINDA high. just my 2 cents.

I met crazy frank (own's billions and trillions) at the POCI meet in Tulsa, and this sob was walking around with 6" ear rings with gold birds of some kind. The guy is a total fruit cake!

I have, unfortunately, had a really bad and expensive experience with them. We have used them sporadically for parts when were really desperate with good results. Frank has always been a little difficult to deal with but when we needed the parts, we had no choice. However, we needed a GTO front bumper and he represented it as "restored" and proceeded to go through the processes he uses on the Endura bumpers. We were reluctant to purchase a bumper that was represented as "restored" since we are a restoration shop. However, based on our 2 plus years of dealing with him and our need of the bumper, we purchased it. Unfortunately, the method used to "restore" the bumper was not as represented. High build primer is not the way to restore a bumper. Needless to say, there was not any standing up for his product. Caveat Emptor!
