Looking for waterpump?
 

I ordered a waterpump from NAPA yesterday, but they only had reman and it does not have he cast impellers. Should I use it? If not any suggestions?

It'll be fine. Read the "sticky" at the top of this forum for tips on adjusting clearances in the pump if needed and drive "cool".

So not having tje cast impellers won't make too much of a difference?

Funny. I also just bought a new WP from NAPA yesterday. It had the cast impeller. And as I said it was new not reman. Cost $36. I was also told that Advanced sells a new pump made by Cardone. They list it as "high performance" and is made of aluminum. Have not actually seen one though so I dont know about the impeller.

Stay away from the new Cardone 8-bolt water pumps. Too great of clearances in their manufacturing process allows the shaft to creep backwards, and then the seal lets go. I went through 3 new water pumps, and the last pump I returned, they admitted that all of the new pumps eventually fail with the same problem. This was only three weeks ago, and I bet it will take a long time before the bad stock is gone. Don't know if they are having problems with the 11-bolt ones or not.

Matrix, do you have the part number for the NAPA water pump and what is the neck lenth of that pump?

I'm running Cardone water pumps on my cars, with no problems. I've got about 7k on the TA and about 3k on the Bonneville. Both from Advance w/ cast impellars.

Took my TA on the Bandit Run. Didn't do the whole run. Put 1007 HARD miles on it, with no cooling problems. Ran from Birmingham to Talledega at 90 - 100 mph, then on to Atlanta at the same speed.

This happened to me, my water pump failed after 3 days and 150 miles. Man what a mess it made in the engine compartment, I was 35 miles from home, lost coolant, water wetter and a flatbed tow. :mad: And yes, me too this was about 3-4 weeks ago.

I looked for a A/C delco and and was sold the wrong one. I couldn't find another one, so I'm back with another Cardone, I hope this one behaves itself. I attached a Pic of a 3 day old failed cardone and a new A/C delco, which by the way, was for a 350 not a 400so, my water pully and cluch fan didn't line up, once again I was :mad:

I got mine from Napa, no cast impellers though! But so far so good! I sure Napa can get a New pump with cast impellers but they will have to order it. I did not want to wait....got my fingers crossed, good luck!!!

I have the extended towing from AAA, and the water pump failures kept the tow companies busy. The pump I ended up with was an ACS I believe, and it also had the stamped impeller - good news was no increase in running temps. If I could have, I would have stayed with the cast impeller but it just wasn't available locally.

68GeeeTO: I would run a copy of this thread off and take it to your autoparts store and ask whether they would like to pay for an engine rebuild since there is a known problem with the Cardone pump, and the next failure might destroy your engine. Request a refund, or barring that, another manufacturer's new pump.

NAPA sells a new 11 bolt water pump. Part # is DPW-1301280. It is called Tru-Flow and has the cast impeller. Lists for around $56, but I paid $38 with my company's discount.

Our local NAPA has gotton several pumps fo our cars even for the old Rambler

I took this back to the auto parts store and was basically given an Oh-well. These are the only failures that we know of, hang on to the receipt for the warranty on the pump.
(Real Nice, like they cared a lot)

So, I then E-mail Cardone customer service with pics, cost of repair, and the whole nine yards. Their response was even shorter and less caring, not even a sorry buddy. It was this “we don't cover towing”.

I need a p.s pump for my caddy and I will pay extra $$$ for an A/C Delco. Cardone has lost my business. :censored:

Any local rebuilders near anyone?
 

I'm not sure of everyones parts situation. There are a ton of local rebuilders in my area. If there are no rebuilders near you, I would consider shipping a water pump for rebuilding. The positives are that you get to keep a factory stamping number, maybe they can find a cast impeller, or maybe you can get a cast impeller from junk parts.

When I buy a remanufactured part, I like finding a Ford or GM logo on the casting. The large rebuilding places use the cores that are available, mostly returned by AutoZone. They are either factory or aftermaket castings. Aftermaker castings are not made until the factory patent has expired. The castings apply from everything that is rebuilt. Wheel and master cylinders, water pumps, etc..,

Just my 2 cents worth.
