Fender fitting
I am trying to get a LH fender for a 1980 Firebird. The fender has an air duct in it though. The only fenders for 77-81 that have the air duct are the trans am fenders. Will the 77-81 trans am LH fender fit on the 1980 firebird body. Here is the one I was looking at:

That fender will bolt on your 1980 Firebird, but most reproduction sheet metal doesn't fit very good & will require reworking.
Also be advised that Classic Industries catalog is FULL of parts that they can't supply & I believe that fender is one of them. |
I also found this site that had a couple. Did only certain models that year come with the air duct? Because it says firebird on the registration, but I read only trans am's had those ducts. Here is the site with original fenders. Thanks again.

The trans ams were the only one fitted with the vented fenders but they will bolt right on to a firebird.

Heres a pic of the old fender. Thats a trans am LH fender then? The body parts haven't been changed. Special versions of the 1980 firebird didn't have ducts?

Only Trans Ams had the air extractors...........if your car is a base Firebird then the fenders have been changed. Standard Firebird fenders can be had pretty cheap compared to TA fenders.........I bough a passenger side Firebird fender in really nice shape for $30 from a local junkyard. I was off the car already too.

Firebird Vs Trans Am
FYI
Your title / registration may say Firebird and not Trans Am even though you actually have a TA. I have owned over 30 TAs over the years and most of them said Firebird on the title. HTH |
Keep in mind that the full name is Firebird Trans Am. Whether its a Base, Esprit, Formula, Trans Am, they're all Firebirds.
Why not put a patch panel in your fender? Most aftermarket sheet metal(especially 2nd-gen Firebird) is known to be complete garbage. |
Have you checked your vin number it could very well be a trans am and not a base firebird
