Oil filter relocation kit question...
 

When you use an oil filter relocation kit, where is the best place to put your fitting for the oil pressure guage? :confused:

On the top of the block next to the distributor, LOL!

It takes a 5/16" square socket to get the plug out. I chased a Snap-On truck down to get one, once.

Or grind down a 3/8 extension

Never had much luck using any straight 5/16" piece on the plug. Those suckers are firmly stuck after 40 or so years. Best I have found is the Sears square (four) sided easyout that has the bottom portion cut off so the start of the tool is just over 5/16" and by design goes bigger. The tool should have to be tapped firmly into the plug. A twelve point 1/2" drive socket on the end of the easyout with a fairly large handle for leverage usually works. Many are a coin toss on what is going to give first - the easyout, the socket or the plug. Plug has always lost, but sometimes it's worrysome.

If the engine is torn down to bare block, I simply drill through the plugs and tap in a normal 4-sided easyout and proceed as above.

You will get a different pressure reading at the dist than at the filter housing.

I ground down an old extension to get mine out. Didn't want to come out at first, but a little heat from a propane torch made quick work of that.

Well, I guess it was my luck day, for a change. Not only did the plug come out pretty easy, but I actually had all of the fittings necessary to get it back together without leaving the garage....now that's something rare......:eek: :D

Only if they used the wrong sized lines, the wrong filters, the wrong fittings, the wrong oil filter adaptors, etc.

Common sense says you do your homework before hand which you are obviously doing because you asked the question.

Let me know if I need to change anyting about the hook up. Going to a longer filter when this one is done. In's to outs and # 10 line. With the Dougs headers and straight fittings, this one was a breeze....:)

What Oil Filter adaptor did you use there Danny?
