VERIFIED!!!!! Close Ratio M21/ 1964 GTO
 

I removed the trans from my 65 GTO today to replace it with an M20 wide ratio. The trans that was in the car was from my brothers 64 GTO. I stated in previous posts that I could document the fact that a 64 GTO was ordered and delivered with a close ratio M21 gearbox. I am now prepared to do that. I have counted the teeth on the gears and verified the vehicle vin number that is stamped on the transmission. I will take pictures and post the information in a day or so. I am not good at crawling under cars anymore and have done enough for today. I just wanted to relay the news to all those so interested.

This 1964 GTO was sold for $475 in San Francisco in about 1974-1975. It was gold/black. It had a ram air engine in it out of those orange ones. It had an m22 trans in it. The wood wheel. And was a post coupe. There were some othe significant mods. If you have this car or know of it's existance please let me know.

Clarification of some numbers
 

It would be helpful if a build date is stamped on the machined surface by the side cover. My '64 325 transmission is stamped P0925 and my '65 transmission is P0521.
On the window sticker, the number to the right of close ratio 4 speed, isn't legible enough to be sure of the last number or letter. It appears to me to be 778 or 77H. If you can post those numbers it could be helpful. Thanks for your help.

Supposing the 0421 stamping is April 21 assembly date.

This car is # 824F027854

Another car # 824F021774 was built April 17, 1964 in Fremont
So about 6,000 cars earlier.
Will have to sift through some more Fremont samples to try to nail a close date for the M21 car.

Car # 824F020805 was built April 10 , a week earlier.
Using those two examples = approx 1,000 cars a week spread.

So maybe around early June on the M21 car.

Yes need some pledgers. None so far.
