Need help finding a part - Firewall Grommet

Anyone know where I can find one of those grommets that goes in the firewall (next to the heater case. It's the one that has the vacume lines and heater harness going though it. I've tried Year One, Ames, and our host with no luck. I'd love to re-use the one I've got, but I've torn it into about a hundred pieces.

Ames performance definitely has them. Our host may have them as well

Saw them on Ebay, can check there too.

Sammy...
How many holes were there in your original grommet? If there were only three, I think that I can help you out. My 67 goat with factory a/c has a four-hole grommet, and I never found any source for one of those.

I'm not with the car right, but I'm 99% sure that there were three vacume line holes and one for the heater/ac harness. The ones on ebay and at Ames only had one hole, so if nothing else, I could just buy whatever Ames or PY sells and drill holes. If I knew that they didn't make them any more, then I would have been more careful removing my old one. I just figured that it was a commonly available part.

I believe you are looking for the grommet that mounts to the blower motor housing under the hood of AC cars. It is not currently reproduced.

I gave a mint one to Steve Ames a few years ago to see if he could get it reproduced. There was some problem with the design of the four holes that prevented him from doing it.

It is a round grommet with four holes. Three are for the vacuum lines and one for a wire harness.

Best bet is to find a good used one. Maybe someday it will be reproduced.

Yep, that's the one. Sorry to hear that they're not being made at this time. If nothing else, I'll just make my own somehow. I really trashed the old one.

I put a post in the 'wanted' section, but if anyone is reading this here and wants to help a brother out, shoot me an email: sammy[at]inexair.com

Thanks,

I think I got one for you. Give me till the weekend

Sammy B 08-31-2007 10:13 AM

Thanks Andre! Let me know how much you want for shipping and the part, or... I just took off an almost brand new set of KYB Gas Adjust shocks off the front of my car. If you want them, they're yours.

Bob - have you approached Soft Seal? They advertise that if you send them a part they will reproduce it.
That said, I tried to get them to reproduce the rubber bumper that goes on the ash tray door but they wouldn't do it. However, I would think there would be more demand for this firewall grommet.
Just a thought.

I know Steve Ames well, so that's why I went to him. I haven't tried Soft Seal and I don't have the mint original that I once had to send to them anyway.

This is what the 66 AC harness/hose grommet on my parts car looks like.

Me 2

I also need one for my 66. As does a friend. Please advise if a source is discovered.
Both require 4 holes, and both broke in small pieces while removing, even with great care. Thanks.

Go this link . and pT# 990411 page 89 cost $5.25 each . http://www.restorationspecialties.co...alog%20PDF.pdf. It sure appears what your looking for. :Ithink:

hawk36 10-18-2007 08:16 PM

may try it

I'll get hold of them. These have a large hole, medium size hole and two small holes, but if this one has 4 smalls, it is thick and fits close to a 1 3/16 hole, it would be well worth a try. Will let you know. Thanks!!

Sammy B 10-18-2007 08:38 PM

What do you know, somebody does make them! It doesn't look exactly like what I had, but close enough to make it work. Very cool!

Thanks Kate67!

I have one if one of you guys wants it. It appears that most of it's life it spent part in, part out of the hole, so it has a small crease in it, plus it is twisted. I put it in a hole in the firewall, and it stayed in the groove, but the small crease was still visible. $5 delivered. Sammy, you asked first, I'll give you first shot at it.

Thanks Gary. If Sammy doesn't want it, I will take it. With luck, maybe I can at least get the hole measurements, etc., and make a mold. Let me know.

Thanks.

It's all yours Hawk. I've now got an oil pressure line and temp line running through that same hole in the firewall. I don't want to hack up an original part that somebody else could use. Thanks A-body.

Cheers,

I know this is an old post, BUT does anyone know a source for these grommets?

Charles
