Tempest Torque Pan Gasket?
 

This came up once before, but didn't appear to be resolved. I tried to order a TempestTorque transmissio pan gasket from Napa - they list it on their site, but canceled the order saying they didn't have it any more. Kanter's lists a complete rebuild kit for $200 that includes the gasket, but I don't need a rebuild - just the pan gasket (which is leaking like a sieve.)

Is the gasket the same as the one used in the Corvair? Clark's Corvair parts lists the gasket in their catalog, but I don't want to order one if its the wrong shape.

If not Clark's, anyone know where I can get one?

Northwest Transmission Parts (www.northwesttransmissionparts.com). I bought an "external seal kit" for my 63 which had pan gasket and other seals.

If you dead end...can you get rubberized cork gasket sheet large enough? You could trace the pan and holes, cut with a knife and use gasket punch set for the holes. Yes, a pain, but an option.

Northwest is your best bet. I think I paid $8 for the last one I bought from them.

Why not seal it modern way.
 

I found an entire gasket kit from a supplier in cerritos california. I believe the guy you really wanna talk to is Ronnie. Trans-matic part at (818) 246-7788. He should have just the pan gasket. I needed the whole kit. May not be a bad idea to get the whole rubber kit. Believe it only cost $60.00.

However, keep in mind, the '61-'62 tempestorque is the same as corvair. The '63 changed pans among alot of other differences that make them a transmission all they're own. The '63 tempest gasket sets are actually more plantiful than the '62, just gotta know where to look.

I have had problems with the cork gaskets leaking anyway and have found that a sealant called "Right Stuff" ,available at basically any major parts store, works wonders. It goes on fairly easy, no waiting to dry, and has been trouble free for me. It is a little pricey, but the same as a gasket after shippng, and you'll have some left for valve covers, or whatever else you'll need to seal later.

This may be my own opinion, but everything I have recieved from Kanter seems second hand, poorly stored and awkwardly painted, packaged, or poorly constructed.(examples include Gabriel shocks , two painted green, other two black, both pair had bad bushings, engine kit had scored main and rod bearings, took two months for a regrind cam, among poor associate assistance.) Things may have become better with them lately, but other posts show the front end parts such as ball joints are taiwan made.

Fel Pro makes it. Part No. TOS18508. I get mine from my local Checker store. It costs about 6 bucks. It is the same as the Corvair Powerglide (although not much else is the same...)
