Baffling VS. Sumping a Tank
 

I've been thinking about trying to install a U-Shaped baffle just behind the stock
pickup instead of sumping the tank. Wouldn't this accomplish the same thing as
a sump? I am hesitant to sump the tank as it seems like a death trap on the street.
All that plumbing behind the tank is bound to rupture and cause a fire with a rearend
impact. Anyone done this? Thoughts?---Ideas?

Your baffle mod should work fine and a search should turn up some info, as it has been done before.

On high powered and traction limited street/strip cars, racing w/ a full tank is the best and cheapest alternative. If I had it to do over again, I would just extend my stock tank pickup to the rear of the tank, instead of sumping my GTO's fuel tank. In addition to the safety concern, parking downhill in my driveway w/ less than a 1/3 tank of fuel uncovers the sump, requiring coasting downhill and into the street to fire the motor :rolleyes: .
