We just bought a very nice 01' TA. I have been on PY for awhile as I have a 68' GTO also. It amazes me that the last generation TA's don't have their own forum as they are definetly some of the fastest Ponchos on the road:pontiac:

It's true, these cars deliver the goods, that's for sure.

Great looks and handling, and very fast.

My automatic '02 WS6 has run in the 13.40s at the drags, absolutely bone stock.

I didn't even do a burnout, nor did I have to beat on it very hard to run those times.

The tires had 44psi in 'em too, I keep 'em pumped up for good gas mileage.:usa2:

Averaging 18 MPG on my lightly congested across town commute, and 26 to 27 MPG on highway trips staying near the speed limit. :thumbup:

It is funny that you don't hear more about these cars, I had no idea they were as quick as they are until I drove one.

My wife was wanting a new car and her 98' Grand Prix was getting tired, and I convinced her to look at the TA's, man did she fall in love with them!

Also, the guy that operates the store where I bought the car is pretty cool, definitely knows his F bodies.

This car has aftermarket headers and exhaust, sounds AWESOME and a K&N, other than that I beleive it is stock. It will light both rears up at 60 mph, gotta love it:bolt:

I'm glad you've joined the 4th gen family! I absolutly love my WS6, and it has to be one of the faster cars I've ever owned. Averaged 24 mpg on the last 2 300+ mile road trips I've gone on and that was at 70+ most of the way. As said earlier LS1tech is the best site for these cars.

I loved my 2000 Trans Am. It was stolen and I got another. A 2001. They are great! Nothing like them and the new Camaro just doesn't look as "sinister" as the Trans Am.

ls1.com is another I just found. I too just recently bought a 2000 WS6. Love it and yea it is fast too.

i have a 01 t/a with 115,000 miles with a lid, k&n filter, tci 3500, nitto drag radials and magnaflow cat back an to date it has ran a 12.7 the engine has never had the valve covers off and still has 3.23 gears. sure cannot debate their performance with very little upgrades.

I have two 1999 WS6 6-speed convertibles that I got new one is a 30th Car #0005.

That 30th car is nice!

An 01/02 auto car with a converter and catback can easily run mid 11's. It's been done many times. The LSx based cars are very strong runners.

I have just a plain ol stock 99 (non WS6),I wish it was a WS6,but it's still the fastest car I've ever owned next to my 68 442 with a built 462 I just sold.
But even the OLds was NO CAMPARISON to the insane performance of my 99,bone stock.
PY should give these cars their own forum,even if the engines are corporate LS-1's,they are badass and reliable muscle.

For tech, ls1tech.com is the best.

For some good tech but better socializing, I love LS2.com. A few years ago LS1.com split and ls2.com and ls1tech.com were formed. I honestly did not know that ls1.com was still online.

i just put a ported tb on my 01 and went from 12.76 to a 12.59. not bad for 3730lbs and never having the valve covers off with 116,000 miles.

What else have you done to it?

I have a completely stock 99 TA non WS-6,37k miles,what would you suggest for performance and exhaust upgrades without breaking the bank and not making it appear non stock or creating difficulty in maintenence?\

It all depends on how much you want to go (money and appearance).

Headers will add good power, but will be more "noticeable".

Heads - A nice set of LS6 (243 castings) ported by some of the LS1 specialist companies (MTI in Houston, Patriot, Lingenfelter, Texas Speed and Performance, etc.) will be the biggest improvement. Heads make the power. Think about a stock d-port 455. Then bolt on the Edelbrock heads. Major power increase. It's the same with the LS1. A 853 or 241 casting is good, but a ported version or LS6 ported version is WAY better.

Cam will help in the power, too, but you will have to determine how radical you want to go. The more duration/lift/separation, the more it gets away from "stock". LOTS of cams out there. Mine is MTI's Stealth II - 224 int, 220 exhaust, .581ish lift, 116 lobe separation. Very very stock sounding, but power comes on HARD above 3500 and keeps going to 6500. It's fun, but there are others. I chose mine because it's a daily driver.

Intake. Since you have a '99, you can upgrade to the LS6 intake. It'll give you a small boost, but it's more noticeable when you port the heads and have an aftermarket cam.

Nitrous - I don't use, but it's quick and effective. Just don't go 200 shot!!

Gears - not sure if you have an automatic or a 6-speed. With a manual, you'll have 3.42's from the factory. Auto is 2.73 (i think). A quick way to gain performance is a rear-end gear change. I like 3.73 for both, but many 6-speed cars go to 4.10's. It's just hard on the already weak rear-end. But, it can survive with smart driving.

Avoid the "smooth bellows", the "performance" Mass Air Sensors that promise 30 or more horse, the catbacks the have tons more power. That's all useless. Just more junk to spend money on. Get the right stuff.

current mods: k&n air filter, slp lid, ported tb, tc1 3500 convertor, magnaflow catback, nitto 315x35x17 drag radials, lower control arm relocation brackets. still has stock 3.23 gears and gets around 18mph and i drive it everyday. has over 116,000 miles and have never changed anything other than oil, plugs and wires.
