TA Temp gauge
 

Working on my 72 TA. Noticed on a 71 TA the temp gauge reads 100, 210 and 250. Later years read 100, 220 and 260. What would be correct gauge for a first week of Nov 1971 build?

Hey Jim, my first week of December built '72 has 100, 210, 250 and the gauge pods are correct dated for the car so I am pretty sure they are original

Here's my 12A built 72 T/A dash. These are the original date coded guages for the car.

Thanks very much for the info. So the change over date was after Dec 1971. What do the guys with the 1973 TAs have? Maybe it was later than 73. The answer may come in the 74 and later forum.

I've got a '73 and it has the 250. I think the '74s got them too.

here's what i've always wondered about this gauge (my 71 has the same) :

is the slash mark between the 100 & 210 the half way point, or 155 degrees ? & is the slash between the 210 & the 250 230 degrees ? anyone really know ?

I can answer that based on bench testing I did. Unfortunately, my info. is at home. I can get back to you tomorrow. If memory serves, the hash between 100 & 210 was 190. More tomorrow.

I have two My 74 Formula built in May 74 is 100 220 260 this is my orig car. I have one from a 74 TA 73 build date 100,210,250. And my 74 TA with a 74 build late 100,220,260.Also a 76 cluster 100,220,260.

Summary thus far has the change over date right near the end of calendar year 1973...maybe the first months of 1974.

On the 100 to 250 range temp gauge, the hash marks are as follows:
100, 190, 210, 230, 250. I don't know if this is exactly what GM intended, but based on bench testing, this is what I surmised. It seems to be plausible since the hash marks space out evenly passed 190.
