remote mirror and power antenna

I'm thinking of re-chroming my remote mirror and either replacing or re-chroming my power antenna mast. Any recomendations on chrome companies or where I can find a new mast? If I rechrome the mast will it still function? Any cost estimates on either project? I live in California.

I think the power antenna mast is stainless steel, and can be polished to a shine. I don't have any suggestions for choosing a company for replating the mirror.

I can tell you who not to send your mirror to.
Pot Metal restorations in Florida.
They tried 3 times to replate my 68 Firebird remote mirror and my 67 GTO remote.
They finally send them back with all of their plating removed via a grinder.
needless to say the parts were ruined, never got any replacements.
The owner is a grade "A" jerk.

Had my mirror housing and support done by Frankford Plating in Philly for $125. But I took it apart and only gave them the pieces mentioned. If someone had to dis-assemble it would cost a lot more as it's kind of tricky on get the cables apart and then back together. If someone didn't know how to do it , it could really get screwed up.

If you do remove the cables color the slots the same as colors on cables and be very careful opening the staked part.
$125 is a fair price
at least they didnt ruin yours and send it back

They kept plating mine to fill the pits instead of filling a few pimples first. Final result was it was so thick the glass wouldnt fit in.
When I sent it back again with a glass to trial fit I got them back with a refund and all the plating removed via a side grinder.

Sorry to hear about the problems you ran into. I was lucky that my mirror was in pretty good shape when I had it done. If they had screwed it up like they did to yours, I would have been really pissed since it's hard to find remote mirrors.

Good thread to read since I will need to plate my RM at some point. What's a fella to do if glass needs to be replaced for same?

Cammer-6 02-19-2008 07:29 AM

Glass is date coded
Find a parts one with glass same date as yours.
428Phil,try finding an early 68 round Firebird remote.
Half year only option(very hard to find). What pissed me
even more was Hemmings, they say they will intervene if
one of their advertisers does wrong(this is where I found PotMetal Restorations of Fla).
They did send a letter to the jerk but didnt pull his advertising or do anything to resolve.
I dropped my subscription after 20 yrs in protest.
